This song.

This is the first song I can remember in my life.

It wouldn't be until one day at chapel while in college that I finally heard the words for the first time, but the tune... The tune of it was the first song to embed itself in my mind.

My mother and my grandmother sang this to me as the only real lullaby I can remember in my childhood. They would hum in to me with sort of nonsense words and I would fall asleep warm and happy and safe and loved.

Now when I hear it I am not only comforted, but convicted. Because the words ring truer and truer for me with every passing day.

And this particular version has me all worked up for all the right reasons - the voices, the instruments, the purity of it.

I am so, so fearful sometimes to trust Him - even knowing that He has given me no reason not to.

And so I will listen to this at least one more time and ask Him one more time ((and then again, and again, and again)) to bind my wandering heart to Him.

Because it will be safe there. I will be safe there.

And if anyone needs me, that's where I'll be.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love

Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above

  1. i have sung this to bud every night since the day he was born!
