DIY | beaded necklaces

Pinterest is going to be the death of me.

And if I'm going down, you're all coming with me (side eye at Jodi and Patt).
The slow winter days at work have led to various discussions about this excellent time wasting experiment - new recipes! new styles! new projects! - which then led to the inevitable question:

How many of those projects do you actually end up doing?

Answer?

Quite a few!

While tooling around Rebecca's blog A Daily Something I found this little gem. In the post she mentions this pin which I had seen as well, giving me the double whammy of "Must make this now!"

I loved her take on it, substituting different components for what she had on hand, opting for delicate silver beads instead of hexnuts and using fewer wooden beads... Simpler and prettier!

So the other night I dropped by the craft store and picked up some beads and chains (wow, sounds like a totally different kind of post, don't it?) and proceeded to have myself a happy night in (of which I'd normally have taken more photos of the process but I was video chatting with Blake and rather distracted).

But truly, all you need:

round beads (I used glass orange beads instead of wood)
small metallic beads
string (I used embroidery thread)
clasps (optional)

String the beads in any fashion you'd like and either tie ends together (if you plan on making it long enough to slip over your head) or clasps.

-

I also strung together this little beauty. Simply take two shorter strands of thin wire or string for beads, looping at the ends to attached with small rings to a length of chain (all available at a craft store).

I stopped looking for directions on most of the necklaces I made that night, just kind of winging it, learning as I went along.

Have you ever made jewelry?

Isn't it fun?!

  4. To get a domain name through google (what I did), you go to your blogger settings where it shows the address to your page. Click 'custom domain name' (or something like that) and it takes you right through the process of buying one and getting it set up. It costs ten dollars for an entire year, so it's not really that bad. I did have to go through my page and make some adjustments to my links and what not, but other than that it was a pretty smooth transition.
