vintage portland

Found this awesome old photo of Portland from 1939.

Anyone recognize this intersection?

It might be the fact that the photo was taken over thirty years before the now famous Powell's City of Books took up residence on the street corner to the right, but nonetheless, this is the intersection of W Burnside & 10th!

I love this because the building to the far left of the image is where I used to work, and that big Western Auto sign? Kinda cool because Western Auto was founded by George Pepperdine.

I'm somewhat familiar with that guy, too.

And now I'll be diving into more Portland history if anyone needs me!

  1. Great photo! I would've never guessed it was Burnside.

I went to college in downtown Portland, and it was so great exploring the city on my breaks. I loved it!
